A conference run by youth, for the youth of today to participate in, and for the youth of tomorrow to benefit from, MUNISH is the embodiment of Model United Nations. It is an admirable opportunity to draw together conscientious, committed young citizens of the world to engage in the exchange of inspiring ideas. An eclectic and international mix of Delegates, Chairs, Press Officers, and Advisors congregate at MUNISH for a weekend jam-packed with debate, hard work and fun.
The theme of this year’s conference is: ‘Power and Responsibility’. At this year’s MUNISH we hope to inspire the leaders of tomorrow to value and cherish their responsibilities as citizens, to empower themselves and to bring those who even today abuse power to justice. Power has many faces and is a tool which can be used to build or to destroy. From the beginning of time it has been sought after by humans, some of whom have lost their humanity in the search. Power can be elusive, exclusive, unexplainable yet contested. Many have tried to define “Power” only to identify traits such as knowledge, wealth, authority and influence. Each man hungers for his own form of power, yet what many fail to realise is that "the price of greatness is responsibility" [Winston Churchill]. History teaches us all that power has the potential to corrupt and be destructive. Where does a legitimate search for empowerment become the corrupting search for power as an end in itself? Must the power of government always bring corruption and how can the individual stand against this? These are some of the issues at the heart of this year’s MUNISH. We are all familiar with the saying ‘Absolute power corrupts absolutely’. We dare to hope that the responsibility of individuals can absolutely disrupt corrupt power. This theme will be reflected in issues of various committees, especially the Special Conference.
